Raising The Bar Too Fast
Have you ever noticed how you keep raising the bar?
You reach something you once wanted, and instead of feeling proud, your mind immediately goes, “Okay… but now we need to be here.” What once felt big starts to feel normal. What once felt like progress starts to feel expected.
And somehow, you end up right back in that space of…
“I’m not quite there yet.”
I’ve been noticing this in myself lately. Not in a negative way, just in an honest way. How quickly I move past things, how quickly I shift into what’s next, and how easy it is to overlook what I’ve already done because I’m already focused on where I think I should be.
No pause.
No acknowledgment.
Just… onto the next thing.
And it made me stop for a second.
Because what if the feeling of “not enough” isn’t actually coming from where we are?
What if it’s coming from how often we raise the bar?
We don’t always give ourselves the chance to feel accomplished… because the moment we get close, we create a new standard. A new expectation. A new version of “better.”
And then we wonder why it never quite feels like enough. We’re measuring ourselves against a finish line that keeps changing. So of course it feels like we’re behind.
So here’s a gentle reminder… for you and for me:
You don’t have to rush to the next version of you today.
You can pause here.
You can recognize this version.
You can let this moment count.
Because this version of you…
the one showing up, trying, growing, figuring things out…is already enough.
Reflection: Where in your life have you recently raised the bar instead of acknowledging what you’ve already done? What have you handled recently that your past self would be proud of? Are you allowing yourself to feel proud… or just moving on to the next thing?
Action Step: Write down 3 things you’ve done recently and let them count. Acknowledge them. Then take a minute to pause and really feel each one of those moments instead of rushing past it.
