Simple Can Be Enough
As summer begins, I've been thinking about how easy it is to believe that more is better.
More plans.
More productivity.
More experiences.
More accomplishments.
I catch myself doing it all the time. Looking ahead to the next thing before I've fully appreciated the thing I'm already living. As I look back on some of my favorite memories, many of them aren't the big adventures. They're the simple moments that happened along the way.
Watching my boys play together.
Relaxing on my mom's patio.
Playing board games and laughing with my sisters.
Spending time outside on a beautiful day.
The moments that don't seem like much at the time, but somehow end up meaning the most. As we move into summer, I'm trying to remind myself to appreciate those moments a little more. To be a little less focused on what's next and a little more present for what's here.
There will always be another goal to reach, another project to work on, another thing to put on the calendar. But life isn't only happening in those big moments.
It's happening right now. Life doesn't always have to be exciting, productive, or meaningful in some big way.
Sometimes simple can be enough.
Reflection: What are some of your favorite memories that came from ordinary moments rather than big adventures? What simple activity helps you slow down and enjoy the present moment? How can you create more space for those moments this summer?
Action Step: Schedule one simple activity this week that brings you joy. Treat it as an important appointment with yourself and give yourself permission to be fully present while you're doing it.
